West Brom manager Roy Hodgson has suggested that Owen Hargreaves chances of signing for the club could be hampered by his poor injury record.
The Baggies have been in contact with the 30-year-old following his release from Manchester United at the end of last season, and the midfielder has since released videos of himself on youtube in order to prove his fitness.
Despite Hargreaves efforts, Hodgson has admitted he cannot overlook the fact that the Canadian-born England international has only featured 27 times in his four years at Old Trafford.
Speaking to the Express amp; Star, Hargreaves said: Owen has been in contact with [Albion technical director] Dan Ashworth and I think he wants to meet up with us.
But weve got to be realistic. Were talking about a player who hasnt played for three years. He is a big name player but so isBobby Charlton!
I think one of the last games Hargreaves played was in my first season atFulhamwhich is over three years ago, so weve got to be realistic.
MUMBAI: Indian business travellers are so bent on fitness that they wont leave home without their costumes or tracksuits–even when they travel for work. Over 17,000 respondents from more than 80 countries were asked what was the most unusual thing they habitually take on a business trip. Almost a fifth of Indian business travellers (18%) declared that they are inseparable from their fitness clothing. These are the findings of a global survey conducted by an international provider of flexible workplaces.
Globally, over a quarter (27%) of respondents reported they pack a swimsuit or gym clothing. Other personal things that may be caught peeping out of a briefcase could easily be gifts for hosts, carried by 20% of Indians and a photograph of the family, packed by 16% of global respondents. Known for their religious bent of mind, Indian business people (11.8%) carried religious books while travelling as against the global average of 5%.
Also 13.9% of Indians carry special food in their luggage compared to 8% of the global average.
Globally, this top selection was followed by a photograph of the family (16%) and a gift for hosts (15%) highlighting that the human touch in business has not lost its importance even in todays fast-paced environment, said the survey. Some quirkier responses include: the national flag, saplings, a lucky gem and spices to complement bland foods. Madhusudan Thakur, regional vice-president, South Asia, Regus, which conducted the survey, said, The weird and wonderful things people were found to take on business trips, from fitness equipment to favourite foods and objects, often reveal how personal and professional lives struggle to coexist in todays high-pressure work environment. Evidently the line between business and pleasure is blurring with more people feeling they need to take a bit of home away with them.
With thousands of businesses now turning to video communications to avoid unnecessary business travel, in future Indians wont need to take their trunks abroad so often, he said.
Rowing can be one of the most beneficial exercises individuals can do. Now, thanks to the efforts of Mt. Pleasant Area School District physical education department head Sherry Kring, the high school has a rowing room, complete with nine Concept II rowers.
Made possible through the acquisition of a grant from Highmark, Kring purchased the rowers and transformed an old storage room into an exercise site.
I thought that this would be something different, Kring said of the rowers. Rowing is big in other schools, so I thought we could try it here.
The machines were installed, and soon students from Krings Advanced Fitness classes started to row, then members of the faculty followed.
Theyre still new and I think that a lot of the students really dont know what they can do, Kring said. They actually have games on the machines themselves that you can play and I eventually want to have a television in there for them to watch as they work out.
For now, the rowing machines are only available during school hours. Kring hopes to have them available more, though.
I would love to one day have all this open after school, Kring said.
The district also received a Fuel Up to Play grant, awarded from the Mid-Atlantic Dairy Association.
Half of the $5,500 grant will be used to purchase fitness equipment, the other half will be used to stock the dairy product vending machine that has proven to be a popular addition at the high school.
The students really like the milk, physical education teacher Charmaine Costain said. We didnt know how it would go with the Gatorade right there, but they started with the milk right away.
In addition to milk, the machine carries a variety of other dairy-based products such as GoGurts, cereal and milk combos and cheese.
The grant enabled the school to purchase physio balls, too, which are used for exercise.
We are very lucky to have such a supportive administration here who understands the importance of physical education and exercise, Kring said. We actually have people from other school districts who come here to tour our facility who cant believe what we have here.
Also, the administration appreciates the hard work of Kring and others who have made the grants possible.
Through the hard work of Ms. Kring and the others in her department, they have been very diligent in seeking out grants to help them improve what they offer in the physical education department, Superintendent Terry Struble said. They have constantly strived to provide the best for the students, and through their efforts, the grants have allowed them to devote resources that the district would not otherwise be able to provide.
